72 Begging children rescued in citywide drive on Valentine’s day in Bengaluru

In a major operation on February 14,2026,the Women and Child Protection Wing of the Bengaluru City Police rescued 72 children who were allegedly being used for begging across the city.

The special drive was conducted under the directions of the Commissioner of Police Bengaluru City.The operation was carried out jointly by the City Crime Branch (CCB),Child Protection Unit,Department of Women and Child Development, NGOs, and the Health Department.

Areas Covered

The rescue operation targeted major junctions,crowded public places,and commercial hubs across Bengaluru where minors were found engaged in begging and related activities.

After being rescued,the children were produced before the Child Welfare authorities.

Their background details were verified,medical examinations were conducted,and efforts are underway to trace their biological parents.

The children have been presented before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for further legal procedures and rehabilitation measures.

Officials stated that sustained drives will continue to curb child begging and to identify those exploiting minors for financial gain.
