The Tumakuru district police have rescued a minor boy who was allegedly kidnapped during the Magodu Jatre in Sira taluk and arrested two persons in connection with the case.
Senior officer told reporters that the complainant,a resident of Mushtigarahalli village in Sira taluk,stated that his parents had taken his son to the Magodu Jatre on January 30, 2026.
The boy,however,went missing around 7 pm on February 1, 2026.
Despite an extensive search, the family could not trace him and later approached the Sira police.
Based on the complaint,the police registered a case under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.
Police investigations revealed that the prime accused, Narasayya alias Narasimhaiah,a daily-wage labourer from Medigeshi village,allegedly planned the kidnapping to help his sister,Shanthamery,who has two daughters and allegedly wanted a male child.
As per the plan,the brother-sister duo visited the fair where the victim had arrived with his grandfather.They allegedly befriended the elderly man and offered him food and liquor.
After he became intoxicated,the accused abducted the minor boy and fled the spot.
The police analysed CCTV footage installed at the fair for law-and-order monitoring,which captured the movements of the accused.
Based on these leads,Narasayya was arrested,which subsequently led to the arrest of Shanthamery from her residence in Koramangala,Bengaluru, after seven days.
The kidnapped boy was safely rescued and reunited with his parents, Superintendent of Police KV Ashok said.He added that further investigation is under way to ascertain the possible involvement of others in the kidnapping.
The police are also cross-verifying Shanthamery’s confession to verify her background and the motive behind the crime.
The arrested have been identified as:Narasayya, son of late Ashwathayya,35,a daily-wage labourer from Marutipura, B.D.Halli Hobli,Madhugiri taluk.
Shanthamery, wife of Shanta,40,currently residing in Koramangala,Bengaluru.
