Woman cries foul over forced conversion, abandonment after marriage

In a case of “love jihad”Bengaluru:A 21-year-old woman and mother of two has approached senior police officials alleging that she was deceived,forcibly converted and later abandoned by her husband.

The complainant,Rita Rosaiah,who later converted to Islam and was renamed Sadia Tabassum,alleged that she met the accused,Parvez,a resident of DJ Halli,in 2015 when she was pursuing her Pre-University education.

According to her complaint,the two became acquainted through a private college and later entered into a relationship.

Rita alleged that Parvez had assured her that he would not force her to convert or interfere with her religion.

Initially,both Rita and her family had opposed the relationship,citing religious differences,but the accused reportedly convinced them by promising that the marriage would take place without any religious conversion.

The couple got married on December 15, 2019,with Rita remaining a Hindu at the time of marriage,the complainant stated.

However,she alleged that after the marriage,Parvez began pressuring her to convert to Islam,threatening her with divorce if she refused.

She claimed that she was eventually forced to convert and was renamed Sadia Tabassum.

The complainant further alleged that after her conversion,Parvez abandoned her and later married another woman.

She accused him of neglect and harassment.
Sadia Tabassum stated that despite approaching the DJ Halli police station,no action was taken against the accused.

She has now submitted complaints to the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP)and the Bengaluru Police Commissioner,seeking justice and legal action.Police officials said the complaint has been received and will be examined as per law.
