Confident Group Chairman C.J.Roy Found Dead Amid Income Tax Raids in Bengaluru

C.J.Roy (57),Chairman of the Confident Group,a real estate firm with operations in Bengaluru and across Kerala,was found dead with a gunshot wound at the group’s premises in Langford Town on Friday.Police suspect that he died by suicide.

The incident occurred while Income Tax Department officials were conducting raids at multiple Confident Group premises in Bengaluru in connection with alleged tax evasion.

Senior officials with SOCO team with Forensic team visited and conducted inspection and confirmed that IT raids were underway against the group,but stated that it was too early to conclude whether the raids were the direct reason behind the incident.

Further he said Roy was found bleeding with bullet injuries inside his bungalow-cum-office on Langford Road,near Richmond Circle.Though he was immediately rushed to Narayana Hospital in HSR Layout,doctors declared him “brought dead.”

There is no official confirmation yet on whether Income Tax officials were present inside the Langford Town premises at the time of the incident.

Senior police officers,as, Commissioner of Police Seemant Kumar Singh,Joint commissioner of police West Division, Vamshi Krishna including Central Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Akshay Hakay,visited the spot and are overseeing the investigation.

The Confident Group has faced multiple Income Tax raids in the past and was reportedly involved in prolonged legal battles with the department before the Appellate Tribunal and the Karnataka High Court over alleged tax violations.

Ashoknagar Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are continuing investigations to ascertain the exact circumstances and sequence of events leading to the incident. Further details are awaited.

Roy is survived by his wife and two children.He was also known for sponsoring several seasons of the television reality show Bigg Boss.
