In a major crackdown to ensure student safety,the Bengaluru Traffic Police conducted a special enforcement drive across the city on Friday morning.
The operation was carried out between 7 am and 10 am in various traffic police station limits.
Joint Commissioner Of Police Traffic,Karthik Reddy told reporters that during the drive,traffic police inspected 5,110 school vehicles,including school buses,to check compliance with safety norms and traffic rules.
Officials found 26 school bus drivers driving under the influence of alcohol.
Cases have been registered against the errant drivers under the Motor Vehicles Act,officer said.
In addition, reports have been submitted to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) recommending cancellation of the driving licences of the drivers involved in drunken driving.
He further said said the special drive was conducted citywide with the objective of ensuring the safety of school children and to strictly enforce traffic regulations among school vehicle drivers.
Authorities have warned that similar surprise checks will continue in the coming days and strict action will be taken against violations involving school vehicles he added.
