In a major disciplinary action, the city police commissioner,Semant Kumar Singh suspended Jnanabharathi police station,Inspector,Ravikumar following serious allegations of negligence and dereliction of duty in the investigation of a murder case.

Mr. Singh issued the suspension order after a preliminary inquiry found lapses in the handling of the case and gross negligence.

A murder case was registered about four months ago under the jurisdiction of the Jnanabharathi police station.

However,Inspector Ravikumar allegedly failed to treat the case with the required seriousness and delayed the registration of the First Information Report (FIR).

It is alleged that,in the initial stages,he attempted to evade responsibility by claiming that the crime scene fell under adjacent limits of the Tavarekere police station.

Following the inspector’s direction, efforts were reportedly made to transfer the case to the Tavarekere police station.

After conducting a spot inspection,Tavarekere police clarified that the incident had occurred within Jnanabharathi police station limits and transferred the case back.

This back-and-forth between the two stations reportedly led to an avoidable delay in the investigation.

Lapses in Investigation:

Even after the case returned to Jnanabharathi police station,Inspector Ravikumar allegedly showed little interest in the probe.

Despite the gravity of the offence,he reportedly failed to make progress in identifying the accused or collecting crucial evidence.Complaints regarding his conduct were subsequently escalated to senior officials .

Following a preliminary inquiry that confirmed dereliction of duty, the Police Commissioner ordered his suspension pending further action.

The police department reiterated that discipline and dedication to duty are paramount, especially in serious crimes such as murder.

Officials said the suspension serves as a warning that delays and negligence in delivering justice to the public will not be tolerated.

Ravikumar is the second police officer faced suspension in the beginning of this year followed by DGP, Ramachandra Rao.
