The Indian Army stands as a role model for the younger generation,instilling the spirit of placing national interest above personal interests,said the Governor of Karnataka, Thaawarchand Gehlot.
Addressing the gathering at the 78th Army Day celebrations held at the War Memorial, MEG Centre, Bengaluru,the Governor said that values such as discipline,punctuality,leadership and teamwork are essential for today’s youth,and the Indian Army provides a living embodiment of these ideals.
Highlighting the Army’s guiding philosophy,the Governor said that the motto“Seva Parmo Dharma”is the cornerstone of every soldier’s life.
“Discipline, loyalty,a strong sense of duty and leadership are the hallmarks of the Indian Army.In a rapidly changing global and technological environment,with increasingly complex security challenges,the Army is continuously strengthening itself through modern technology,cyber capabilities,space cooperation and advanced training,”he said.
Commending the creative and dedicated efforts of officers and personnel,Gehlot said these initiatives have led to significant advancements in defence equipment, enhancing the strength and confidence of the armed forces.
He paid heartfelt tributes to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in safeguarding the nation’s security,sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Governor noted that Army Day commemorates the historic occasion in 1949 when the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army assumed office, symbolising India’s complete military sovereignty.
“Since then,the Indian Army has risen to every challenge, defended the nation’s borders,and played a vital role during disasters, crises and peacekeeping missions.
Its history is filled with countless stories of valour, courage and selfless service.Our soldiers have sacrificed their today for our tomorrow,”he said.
Gehlot further said that the lives of senior soldiers continue to inspire young soldiers and fellow citizens alike.He also acknowledged the immense contribution of women in the armed forces,stating that they have faced even the toughest hardships with dignity,patience and indomitable courage.
“The nation is indebted to our soldiers, ex-servicemen, brave women and their families for their sacrifice, dedication,courage and unwavering faith in the nation,” he said,extending his heartfelt gratitude and salute.
Major General V.T.Mathew,AVSM,YSM,General Officer Commanding,Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area,and Brigadier Ajay Singh Thakur,along with officers and personnel of the armed forces, were present on the occasion.
