Lokayukta Registers Suo Motu Case Over Rs.200-Crore Government Land Scam in Nagamangala

A criminal case has been registered against 11 persons, and five government officials have been arrested in connection.

Upalokayukta Justice B.Veerappa has registered a suo motu case against the Tahsildar of Nagamangala taluk and others,and issued search warrants after receiving information that fake documents were created and public records tampered with at the Nagamangala Taluk Office to secure illegal grants of government land.

Following extensive searches conducted by the Karnataka Lokayukta Police,officials found that nearly 300 acres of government land,valued at approximately Rs.200 crore,had been illegally and fraudulently granted in various villages of Nagamangala taluk,Mandya district.

Case Registration and Searches:

Based on public complaints,Justice B.Veerappa on January 12, 2026,took suo motu cognisance and registered a complaint.

Acting on these directions,Lokayukta Police conducted search operations between January 13 and 14,2026, starting at 4.30 am,across seven locations in Mandya, Mysuru,Chamarajanagar and Maddur.

Allegations:

The accused allegedly,Fabricated and tampered with official land records created fake saguvali chits
Issued forged grant orders,Generated false notices and approvals,Manipulated RTCs,MR records and survey documents.

These documents were allegedly used to illegally grant government gomala and revenue lands by inserting new beneficiaries in place of original or eligible persons, resulting in unlawful gain.

Seizures:

During searches at residences,offices and vehicles, Lokayukta Police seized:Original and forged land records,Fake saguvali chits,Government notices and grant files,Fabricated approvals linked to land grants.

A search of the residence and vehicle (KA-54-M-4459) of Village Assistant Yogesh led to the recovery of original revenue records and several forged documents related to Nagamangala taluk.

Extent of the Scam:

Investigations revealed manipulation of survey numbers 123,124,51,65 and 35,among others,in villages including Devalapura,Bellur,Chikkadalakoppalu, Doddagadalakoppalu,Malleshandra,Dondemadahalli,Kachenahalli,Hanchipura and Guddebhovanahalli.

In several cases,land was allegedly granted far in excess of the permissible limit of 4 acres and 38 guntas per family with the scam.
