Strict action will be taken against officers of RTO offices if they allow middlemen to create inconvenience to the public.

Such officers will be held responsible and subjected to disciplinary proceedings, warned Transport and Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy.

Responding to Question No.342 raised by member Dr. Umashree during the discussion in the Upper House on Tuesday, the minister said several measures have been taken to instil discipline in RTO offices.

All applications and acknowledgements received in the office must mandatorily be recorded by the concerned caseworkers in the prescribed format.

Superintendents must verify the records once a week, and monthly table inspections should be conducted, with reports submitted to higher authorities as per directions issued by the Transport Commissioner.

He further said that instructions have been issued to ensure that middlemen are not allowed inside any office under any circumstances. If middlemen are found in any RTO office, the respective officers will be held accountable and disciplinary action will be taken as per rules.

To discourage the public from approaching agents, notice boards have been installed in RTO premises advising citizens to directly contact the officers or staff for their work.

Details of the Lokayukta office, including address and phone numbers, have also been displayed on the boards.

Since November 1,2021,the department has made 52 services available online to curb the influence of middlemen, the minister added.
