The Bengaluru City Police Commissioner has suspended four police personnel,including two assistant sub-inspectors,a head constable and a constable,for negligence and dereliction of duty,as part of an ongoing crackdown on non-performing staff.
According to official data,with this a total of 131 police personnel across various ranks have been suspended in 2025 so far,including 10 inspectors,16 sub-inspectors,18 ASIs,42 head constables and 42 constables.
In one case,ASI Srinivasmurthy of Nandini Layout police station was suspended for failing to act on a complaint filed by a resident,Nityananda Murthy.
The complainant had approached the station on November 9,reporting suspicious visitors at his house.
Although the complaint was received,the ASI neither informed his senior officers nor initiated any legal action as per procedure.
Frustrated by the inaction,the complainant posted his experience online,and the post went viral.
Taking serious note,the Police Commissioner directed disciplinary action for bringing disrepute to the department.
In a separate incident,ASI Jayarame Gowda and Head Constable Dharma attached to Subramanyanagar police station were suspended for failing to serve court-issued summons and warrants to accused persons and witnesses in a case.
The court had issued summons on 12 different dates, but the duo failed to deliver them or inform the witnesses,leading to repeated non-appearance.
A city court then issued a memo to the Police Commissioner seeking an explanation.Both officers were found to have shown negligence,and were suspended pending inquiry.
Similarly,Police Constable Nazeer,attached to Sanjaynagar police station,was suspended for failing to report for a sensitive security duty at the Chief Minister’s official residence on September 7.
He allegedly remained absent without informing his seniors or applying for leave.
A senior police officer said the Commissioner has issued strict instructions to take legal action against staff for non-performance and indiscipline,stressing that such lapses will not be tolerated.
