While the Home minister G Parameshwara on Sunday reacting to the inmates accessed to mobile and TV in prison,assured strict action against jail officials accused of allowing “VVIP treatment” for inmates.
The prison officials in the early hours inspected the premises to check for the contraband.
The raids and inspections were carried a day after media highlighted the issue of prison inmates under trails and convicted are enjoying the TV shows,Music and also talking on the mobile phone while the residents in and around the prison complaining that there is no network due to high ends jammers installed in the prison to contain the use of mobile phones .
The prison officials said that they could not find anything suspicion during the inspection while a complaint has been raised about the issue with the jurisdictional Police seeking detailed probe.
The prison officials confirmed that the video surfaced was dated back to two to three years old , which was leaked now by some inmates inside the prison as part of conspiracy .
Meanwhile taking a strong exception,Mr,Parameshwara said that he has called a meeting of senior police officers and sought a detailed report from Additional Director General of Police (ADGP),B.Dayananda on the allegations.
“We have appointed B Dayananda as the head (of Prisons).He was on leave yesterday,but I have spoken to him.I have told him that this is happening repeatedly; whoever is responsible for this,immediate action needs to be taken against them,and a report should be submitted.
But I will not tolerate this nonsense. Enough is enough,” Parameshwara told the media .
On October first week,A head warder and a warder have been suspended, while an assistant superintendent,two jailers,and two assistant jailers are facing departmental inquiry for allegedly dereliction of duty following a video of Srinivasa alias Gubbachhi Seena,a rowdy-sheeter lodged in the prison on murder charges,was seen wearing an apple garland and cutting cake with fellow inmates in the video.
The celebration is said to have taken place on September 9 in Barrack.
There are many such incidents earlier where it was revealed during the surprise inspection and raids conducted by CCB and city police resulted in seizure of huge sum of contraband .
In few instances the prison staff and medical staff attached to the prison were caught trying to smuggle mobile phones and contraband inside the prison, indicating nexus of the staff.
