Even as the City Police are often quick to act in cases of sexual harassment,their inaction in a case where a woman Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) was allegedly abused and heckled by a city-based activist and his supporters or friends on Facebook during routine check in Rajajinagar has sparked outrage and concern within the force.
According to sources,despite the woman officer lodging a formal complaint against the accused the accused was arrested and sent to judicial custody but till today there is no action has been taken so far on the supporters or his Facebook friends of the accused.
The delay has drawn criticism from women personnel, who have expressed disappointment over what they call a biased and demoralising response from the department.
“This is a demoralising and condemnable act.When a woman officer herself faces such behaviour and no action follows,it sends the wrong message,”said one woman officer.
While the prime accused arrested his accomplice who joined him to abuse and heckled the women officer are yet to be identified and traced.
This is so pathetic and demoralising if we don’t do justice to ourselves how can we serve the society charity must begin at home,a officer quipped.
Senior officials said the matter is being reviewed and appropriate action would be taken as per procedure.
