A couple posing as distant relative visited the house of home alone woman on the pretext of giving marriage invitation,tied up the victim,ransacked the house and escaped with valuables worth around Rs.15 lakh in Neraluru on Hosur Main Road on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim,identified as Nagaveni,was alone at home when a woman arrived at her doorstep claiming to be a distant relative and said she had come to invite her to a wedding.
Unsuspecting,Nagaveni welcomed her inside and offered to fetch a glass of water.
Taking advantage of the moment,another accomplice,a man,entered the house and bolted the door from inside.
The duo then threatened Nagaveni at knifepoint, dragged her into a room,and tied her hands and legs before demanding she reveal where the valuables were kept.
Fearing harm,Nagaveni disclosed where the keys to the almirah were kept.The culprits looted about 200 grams of gold and silver ornaments and fled the spot after locking the door from outside.
After managing to free herself,Nagaveni raised an alarm, alerting her neighbours,and later called her husband Ravi Kumar,who had been at work during the incident.
The Attibele police have registered a case of robbery and launched a manhunt to track down the suspects.
Police suspect that the woman who posed as a relative may have conducted prior recce of the house before executing the plan.
The police have gathered CCTV footage from in and around the area to track down the accused.
