Municipal Administration Minister Narayana

Amaravati: ‘We will take up the construction of the capital without any problem in the future. For this we have designed Kondaveeti vagu, Pala vagu and gravity canals. We will make them very deep and wide. In addition to these, six reservoirs are being constructed. No matter how much flood comes, we will see that it goes into the canals. If they are full… we have prepared a plan to fill the reservoirs. If the flood is more than that, we will send it into the Krishna river through lifts. We will not let even a single drop of water stand in the capital,’ said Municipal Administration Minister Narayana. He spoke to reporters at the CRDA office in Vijayawada on Monday. We will construct reservoirs with a capacity of 0.4 TMC at Neerukonda, 0.1 at Krishnayapalem, 0.01 at Sakhamuru, 0.3 at Lam, 0.2 at Pedaparimi and 0.3 TMC at Vaikunthapuram. If there is a heavy flood… We will make arrangements to release 12,350 cusecs at Undavalli, 4,000 cusecs at Buckingham Canal and 5,650 cusecs at Vaikunthapuram into the river through lifts. Tenders will be called for these works in two months. We will instruct the ADC officials to complete these by the next rainy season,’ said the minister.

Tenders by December

‘Karakatta road will be widened into four lanes. We will ensure that there is no problem even if 15 lakh cusecs flow comes to Krishna river in future. Experts from IIT Madras, Hyderabad have recently given reports on the strength of buildings and foundations. He opined that the capacity of all the structures is good and the work can be continued. RFPs have been invited for consultants to design work reestimates. We will call for tenders in two months, start the work in December and complete it quickly. Jungle clearance is 80 percent complete. Narayana explained that rent arrears of Rs.169 crore have been paid to the farmers.

It is clear that Vaikapadi is a bad propaganda

‘Many parts of Vijayawada were submerged in the Budameru flood. No area of Amaravati was submerged despite the highest ever flow of 11.43 lakh cusecs in the Krishna river. In the past, Vaikapa leaders have written letters to the World Bank saying that all this is a flooded area, that the capital should not be built and loans should not be granted. Besides, they spread bad propaganda on a large scale. It turns out that there is no truth in that. Many taxes to be paid to Vijayawada Corporation are expiring on 30th of this month. The minister said that we will extend the deadline for payment of taxes to the people of flood affected areas of the city.
