Posing as NRI from Canada,conman approached a 34-year-old software engineer with a marriage proposal on matrimonial site made away with Rs.30 lakh after luring her with gifts .
After losing her life saving,the victim,resident of Banaswadi approached the East Division cyber crime police and cheating complaint on Tuesday .
In her complaint,the victim had uploaded her bio data on a matrimonial sire looking for prospective groom in September this year.
Few days later she came in contact with a person named Jayesh (through Shaadi.com.)claimed to be an Anglo-Indian living in Canada,with his family settled in the United Kingdom, and said he was planning to relocate permanently to India.
The victim,said Jayesh contacted her frequently over calls and messages, gaining her trust.He told her he would send his luggage and gifts to her address in India as part of his move.
A few days later,she received calls from individuals claiming to be agents from(“Inter Air Delivery Centre”) a courier service,and informed her that a parcel from Canada had arrived in her name and demanded payment for clearance.
Believing them,the woman initially transferred Rs.37,000. However,the callers soon claimed that the parcel contained USD 100,000 in cash and a cheque worth USD 200,000,and demanded additional payments for taxes, insurance,IMF clearance,demurrage,and conversion charges.
Over time,she ended up transferring a total of Rs.30.19 lakh to various bank accounts provided by the fraudsters.When they later demanded another Rs.14.7 lakh,she realized she had been scammed.
She said the accused refused all video calls, shared only photographs,and has now deleted his (Shaadi.com) profile on the matrimonial service .
The woman has preserved all chat transcripts,call logs, payment receipts,and bank transaction details as evidence.
