Nearly eight months after the suicide of BJP worker Vinay Somaiah, the Hennur police have filed a B report giving clean chit to Madikeri MLA AS Ponnanna and others who have been accused of abetment.
A 35-year-old,Vinay Somaiah,was found dead by suicide in his office in Bengaluru’s Nagawara in Hennur police station limits leaving behind a suicide note alleging that a politically motivated FIR,Orchestrated by a local Congress leader,forced him to take the extreme step accused Congress functionary Tenneera Maheena,MLA AS Ponnanna,and others of harassment and false implication in a case.
Vinay,a native of Somwarpet in Karnataka’s Kodagu district,was an administrator of the WhatsApp group “Kodagina Samasyegalu,”where a controversial post against Congress MLA and legal advisor to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah,AS Ponnanna,had been shared.
FIR was registered against the person who posted the image and the admins of the group,including Vinay,who was named Accused No.3.He was arrested and later released on bail.
Despite securing a court stay on the case,Vinay alleged continued harassment from the police and political figures.
The case has taken a political twist as BJP leaders and State unit president B.Y.Vijayendra demanded the government to conduct a detailed probe and take legal action against those responsible for the death .
Following the suicide and based on the complaint by Jeevan KS,father of the deceased,the Hennur police had taken up a case on April 4,charging the accused section 352 (intentional insults that are likely to cause a breach of public peace or the commission of another offense) , 351 (criminal intimidation) and 108 ( Abetment of suicide).
The probe revealed that the allegations made in the complaint that the deceased was threatened the accused to get a rowdy-sheeter in his name,did not have any evidence not have any witnesses to support the allegation.
The police also verified the call record details of the suspects through FSL and found there were no threats and pressure meeted out to the deceased through the calls have no evidence .
At the time of filing the complaint and two months before all the call record details checks and found that there were no calls,no whatsapp chats or any form of communication found to corroborate the claims .
Considering this the investigation was concluded on the basis of lack of evidence and the police filed a B report to the court .
