The City market police have arrested a cloth merchant and his assistant for assaulting a woman mercilessly for stealing a bundle of sarees in full public view.
The accused later handed her over to the police who arrested the woman,recovered the stolen property and remanded her to judicial custody.
Meanwhile the assault was recorded by one of the shop keepers on his mobile phone and uploaded on social media which went viral.
The video clip reached the members of Kannada Rakshana Vedike members who taking objection staged a protest demanding action against the accused.
The police based on the complaint arrested Umed Ram, owner of Maya Silk sarees along with his assistant Mahendra Seervi charging them under assault and outraging the modesty and remanded them to judicial custody.
Umed Ram had kept a bundle of Sarees outside the shop when the woman, a habitual offender stole it and escaped on September 20.
Umed Ram noticed the CCTV and kept a watch and caught the woman the next day while she was walking.
The accused thrashed her in the middle of the road, reigning kicks and punches and dragged her around humiliated before she was handed over to the police.
