Director of a MNC company was conned of ₹ 7.5 lakh after a cyber fraudster,posing as his CEO, tricked him into buying Apple Store gift vouchers and handing over the codes.
Baed on the complaint filed by Abhishek Mitra, (Director, “APRIORI PRIVATE LIMITED.)the Whitefield Division, cyber crime police have registered an FIR on Friday charging the accused under IT Act and also under section 318 ( cheating ) and 319 ( cheating by impersonation) of BNS for further investigation.
In his complaint Mr.Mitra said that he has received a whatsapp message from an unknown number posing as CEO of the company claiming that he is in the middle of a meeting in USA.
The message further read asking him to purchase apple stores vouchers.
Without verifying further he carried out the instructions and purchased 80 apple store vouchers online and shared the code to the number with a reply .
The cheating came to light when he confirmed the information with the CEO who refused that he sent any such request.The complainant said that some one had used the ID of the CEO to cheat the Director .
The police are now verifying the facts of the case.A police officer advised people not to entertain such request without cross checking with the person concerned .
