A 64-year-old businessman lost Rs.5.8 lakh from his savings account after clicking on a fake RTO e-challan APK file sent to him on WhatsApp.
Based on the complaint by victim, from New Thippsandra,the east division police have registered an FIR charging unknown person under IT act and also under section 318 ( Cheating) under BNS on Tuesday.
The victim said that he has received the message from unknown number with the message with assuming that its from the RTO department,he clicked the link to read further .
As soon as he clicked the messages a total of Rs.5,81,500 has been deducted from two of his saving accounts.
This is the most common form of cyber fraud where APK (Android Package Kit) files shared by the cyber frauds randomly through SMS whatsapp and emails and even on social media tricking into downloading fake applications to steal personal and financial information.
The police officials advised people not to click on any APK files they receive to ensure protection from data and financial theft.
