The East Division Cyber Crime Police have registered an FIR against a man for cheating a 57-year-old retired woman for Rs.3.75 crore using AI-generated deepfake video of spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev promising huge returns for her investment .
The victim a resident of CV Raman Nagar,not aware of the deepfake technology believed to be Sadhguru video on social media between February 25 and April 23 who promoted and offered to invest.
“I watched a video of Sadhguru stating that he had been trading with the firm,for which a link is provided below and If you click it and input your name,email,phone number for an amount of $250, your finances will improve greatly.”the complainant,said in her complaint .
After she followed the instructions,the woman was contacted by a person calling himself Waleed B,who claimed to represent a company called Mirrox who had multiple apps,comprising of around 100 members as investors .
Mr.Waleed B asked complainant to download Mirrox application (url: http://www.mirrox.com http://mirrox.com/client-area ).waleed used to teach trading through Zoom application.
Later Michael C,associate of Waleed,contacted the complainant and used to teach trading when waleed was unavailable.
Following the instructions,the victim between February 25 to April 23 this year invested total of Rs.3,75,72,121, from her State Bank of India Account no:10461128761, HSBC bank Account number: 587166315833 linked credit card Master card .
The fraud came to light when the victim made futile attempts to withdraw the invested money and checked with her family and friends to realise that she has been duped.
