Karnataka Lokayukta police nab Woman PSI & her assistant and two constables for taking bribes in two different cases

In a setback to the police’s victim centric approach,a woman sub-inspector has landed in Lokayukta net for allegedly demanding a bribe from the mother of a POCSO victim to file a charge-sheet against the accused.

A Woman police Sub Inspector and her assistant,a police constable attached to Devanahalli police station were on the run after Lokayukta sleuths raided the station to trap them .

While the officials caught Amaresh station writer red handed while accepting the bribe amount of Rs.50,000, the prime accused,PSI,Jagadevi and constable, Manjunath managed to flee.Efforts are on to secure them.

The accused according to the officials had demanded the bribe to file charge-sheet against the accused booked for sexually assaulting the minor daughter of the victim.

The accused identified as Johnson,a habitual offender involved in multiple criminal cases used to visit the house of the victim.

On the fateful day this year,the accused visited the house and the victim was busy in her daily chores.

The accused making use of the opportunity,the accused sexually assaulted the minor daughter who was studying at home,and escaped .

Based on the complaint,the police arrested the accused and remanded him to judicial custody,who later came out on bail.

When there was no progress in the case,the victim’s mother approached the police seeking update on the case.

The accused Jagadevi,reportedly told her that they had spent Rs.25,000 for the arrest of the accused and demanded one lakh to file charge-sheet against the accused to take the case forward.

After negotiation,the accused finally settled the amount to Rs.70,000.Unable to pay the bribe amount the complainant approached Lokayukta and filed a complaint,which led to the raid and arrest of one of the accused charging them under Prevention of Corruption Act .

While assuming charges,Director General and Inspector General of Police,MA Saleem and city police commissioner,Seemant Kumar Singh assured that the police should have victim centric approach,but going by the incidents,the police officials not taking their senior’s advise seriously,a officer,part of the investigation,said .

In a similar case,the Lokayukta officials trapped Head Constable of Vyyalikaval police station,red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs.50,000 from the complainant for an official favour.

The accused Dayananda,was probing a case of fight between two Pro-Kannada activists which was aired in one of the YouTube news channel .

Dayananda on the pretext of investigations summoned Raghavendra who put out the story on his YouTube channel,and demanded Rs.1 lakh to make him as witness in the case and threatened to book him as accused if he failed to pay the bribe.

Raghavendra approached the Lokayukta police and filed a complaint following which the police trapped Dayananda and arrested him under Prevention of Corruption Act.
