A 21-year-old youth set himself on fire after splashing toilet cleaner on his cousin after he turned down his marriage proposal at Bashettyhalli in the outskirts of Chikkaballapura on Tuesday.
The deceased Anand Kumar sustained 80 per cent burn injuries and later succumbed in his hospital while the victim Vyshali,a BCA student escaped with minor rashes on her face and body.She is treated at the hospital and recovering, the police,said .
According to the senior officer the deceased Anand Kumar uncle of the victim and wanted to marry Vyshali, But she turned down his proposal .
After turning down his proposal,irritated Anand went to his sister house called out the victim and splashed toilet cleaner which he carried with him.
Scared by the attack victim raised alarm following which he poured petrol on him and set himself on fire .
The family members and neighbours doused the fire and rushed both to the hospital where the accused succumbed.
The Chikkaballapura police have registered a case of suicide and assault against the deceased for further investigation.
