In an effort to minimise fatal accidents and ensure safety among riders,city traffic police in coordination with RTO officials and Officials of legal metrology launched special drive to contain use of sub standard helmets.

According to the police,majority of the fatal accidents attributed to use of sub standards helmets,using BIS marked ISI helmets will minimise fatalities to maximum extent, a police officer, said .
as part of the drive,police officials along with RTO and officials of legal metrology visiting helmet shops and check the stock on standard helmets and creates awareness.
Police personnel are busy cracking down on half helmets & plastic head gear for 2-wheelers.
Senior officers even visited helmet shops to educate sellers asking two wheeler riders and shop owners not to compromise on safety.
The law requires BIS helmets to be worn,including children.
Traffic police also conducted drive and booked some bikers wearing half helmets and plastic caps to save themselves from being penalised.
The officials also issued notices to some shops selling helmets seeking explanation on sale of sub standard helmets.
However police are check on the roadside vendors selling plastic caps and half sized sub standard helmets which is very popular among the scooter riders and pillion riders .
