The Vidhana Soudha police are on the lookout for conmen who posing as senior officials of Lokayukta blackmailing BBMP officials with fake cases.
Based on the complaint of Srikanth S,Police Inspector, Lokayukta,the Vidhana Soudha police registered an FIR charging the unknown accused under impersonation, extortion and also under cheating by impersonation under BNS on Monday for further investigation
The cheating came to light when the accused called Jyothi GC,Assistant executive engineer,BBMP, Mahadevapura zone,claiming to be SP and ADGP Lokayukta on May 23 .
The caller informer her that there is a confidential report against her which is being probed and asked her to follow their instructions if she wanted the case to be dropped against her .
Worried Mrs.Jyothi approached Lokayukta office for clarification and shared the mobile numbers used by the accused to call her.
The Lokayukta officials when checked the mobile the true caller showed the id as “Parshuram Lokayukta BS Patil “.
Further probe revealed that the accused had even called a retired executive engineer with the same claim and made attempt to extort money.
The accused are not only misusing the names of the officials but also tarnishing the image of the institution,. the complainant, stated.
This is not the first time,A 21-year-old PU dropout,who posing as a Lokayukta officer blackmailed a Chickballapur City Municipal Council official for money after threatening raids against him in March this year.
The Ullal Police of Mangaluru district arrested Dhananjaya Reddy Thota,31,allegedly impersonated a Lokayukta official in a call to Purushottam,a panchayat officer, demanding money to “resolve” a supposed corruption case. in December 2024 .
