Activist urges scholarship for child marriage survivor in Karnataka & to bring strict rules to prevent child marriages

Taking a strong exception to the recent incident of a minor girl from Reddihalli Gollarahatti in Challakere taluk, Chitradurga district,resisted child marriage successfully, the Karnataka Child rights observatory State Government to draft strict rules to prevent child marriages and extend free and compulsory education to all the girls till the age of 18.

State convenor,Vasudeva Sharma NV,in a letter addressed to the Chief Minister and shared it with all concerned ministers,judges and women commission demanded the government to come out with more strict rules to ensure such incidents should not be repeated .

The Chief Minister in a meeting held recently with the DCs and CEOs issued strict instructions to contain the social evils including child marriage and pregnancies .

This means the government in a way has accepted that this has been persistence in the society.

Denial and delay of actions among the officials concerned especially in the rural areas is another problem which is leading to such problems, he added .

The government should formulate strict rules to and negligence on part of the officials.

The government should crack the whip on such officials who are neglect such issues should be dealt under Dereliction of duty .

The government also should create awareness at large scale about the ill effects of child marriage which is still in practice in rural areas.

The community leaders and panchayaths play a vital role in such practices and strict legal action should be taken against them if they found involved in such incidents.

Sex education and information about the social evil practices should be taught at compulsorily at the schools and college level.

The victim who fought for her right and prevent child marriage should be feted by the government to set an example to others,Mr.Sharma said.
