Permanent Measures Must Be Taken to Address Flood-Prone Areas:Tushar Girinath

Additional Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department and BBMP Administrator Tushar Giri Nath, has directed officials to implement permanent solutions in areas within BBMP limits that are prone to flooding.

Addressing a meeting with officials from various departments today at Room No.422,Vikas Soudha,he emphasized the need for coordinated action to address problems in rain-affected areas of the city.

He instructed National Highway authorities to take appropriate measures to prevent waterlogging on highway stretches under BBMP limits near Electronic City.

Additionally,BBMP officials were directed to ensure proper maintenance of side drains by removing silt and keeping them clean.

*Installation of Box Culverts:

To prevent flooding at Kogilu Junction, he instructed the Storm Water Drain Department to immediately initiate the construction of a box culvert.

As metro construction is also underway at this location, he emphasized the need to obtain necessary permissions from the traffic division and complete the work within the stipulated time frame.

*Address Issues at Waterlogged Railway Underpasses:

Officials were instructed to identify and list railway underpasses that frequently experience waterlogging and work with the Railways to implement permanent drainage solutions.

Where capacity is found to be insufficient,widening of structures must be carried out. Upon completion, the BBMP will be responsible for ongoing maintenance.

*Prevent Sewage Overflow:

On Bannerghatta Road, the Water Board had excavated roads for underground drainage work,which has now been completed.

However,the damaged road segments have not yet been restored.Instructions were given to undertake restoration work without delay.

During heavy rains, many areas experience sewage overflow due to high water levels in the underground drains.The BWSSB officials were directed to take all necessary measures to prevent this from recurring.

He also instructed the immediate removal of garbage and silt from footpaths and roadsides along the Outer Ring Road, where metro construction is in progress and pedestrian pathways are under repair.

BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao,BWSSB Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar,Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anucheth,Engineer in Chief Prahalad,and senior officials from BMRCL,BDA,BESCOM, the Railways, and other related departments were present on this occasion.
