*Inspection of Rain-Affected Areas Conducted.
BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao,stated that necessary actions will be taken to find a permanent solution to the recurring flooding issues in Sai Layout, which falls under BBMP limits.
Speaking to the media after inspecting areas affected by heavy rainfall in the city yesterday,he said that the city witnessed intense rain, and officials were in the field until 1 AM to oversee and resolve the situation.
Sai Layout, developed by the BDA,has been experiencing waterlogging issues.A meeting will be held with BDA officials to address these concerns promptly.
Temporary jackwell systems with pumps will be installed in select areas by BDA as an interim measure.
The Chief Commissioner explained that Sai Layout is situated at a much lower elevation compared to the adjoining stormwater drain (rajakaluve), leading to water accumulation.
Additionally, the narrow railway vent through which the drain passes has been obstructing smooth water flow. Coordination with the Railway Department has already begun to widen the vent, and instructions have been issued to expedite the work.
During the inspection, local residents of Sai Layout submitted grievances, and to prevent flooding during the rainy season,a temporary sump will be constructed with pumps installed to remove water.
A dedicated team will be deployed to manage the operations.Under disaster management provisions, waterlogged houses will be identified and compensation or relief will be provided accordingly.
Continuous desilting and cleaning of the SWD will be ensured to maintain smooth water flow,he added.
*Inspection via Tractor in Sai Layout:
To assess the inundated areas, the Commissioner conducted a field visit to Sai Layout via tractor and instructed officials to install pumps at all identified waterlogged locations for quick drainage.
*Inspection Near Manyata Tech Park:
Waterlogging has been reported near Manpho, close to Manyata Tech Park, due to poor storm water drain connectivity.
The Commissioner has directed officials to conduct a joint meeting with stakeholders from Manyata,E.B.S IT Park,Manpho, and Karle InfraTech to initiate construction of a new SWD.
*Nagavara Junction Inspection:
At Nagavara Junction, where Metro construction is ongoing, the Commissioner instructed Metro officials to maintain regular cleaning of the storm water drains to avoid waterlogging.
He also emphasized the need for progress in the High-Density Corridor project, including the construction of cross culverts.
Near Thanisandra, desilting of the storm water drains is in progress, and around 20 truckloads of silt have already been cleared.
The remaining silt must be removed promptly, and slab measurements on top of the stormwater drains should be taken, as instructed to the concerned officers.
BBMP Mahadevapura Zone Commissioner,Ramesh, Yelahanka Zonal Joint Commissioner,Mohammad Naeem Momin,Executive Engineers,BBMP and Metro officials, and other relevant authorities were present during the inspection.
