The state starting from tomorrow at 4 pm will observe “Operation Abhyas”for a week rising security concerns following the Pahalgam terror attack following the Pahalgam terror attack as part of nationwide civil defense mock drill to practice emergency preparedness and public safety mechanism in case of any eventualities.
Director General of Fire Force and Emergency Services, Prashanth Kumar Thakur,elaborating on the drill,said that the department has planned to conduct mock drills at three places including Bengaluru city which is metro city and considered high sensitive zone for having defense and vital establishments of national and international interest,the second is Kaiga power plant in Karwar district and Raichur Thermal power station.
The components and modalities of the mock drills have been discussed with the ministry of home which will be implemented for the next course of action, he said .
As part of the drill all the government and civic agencies are involved which will be sensitized to perform their duties on real time situation.
As part of the program,the sirens are installed at police stations and fire stations at strategic locations across the state including 35 places in Bengaluru,a senior police officer,part of the program said.The siren will be heard around 3 kilometers radius of activated to indicate high alert .
The fire department have conducted the audit of the sirens installed in 35 places on Tuesday.Three sirens have not been active due to technical snag which the rest of the sirens are ok.
The following establishments which have active siren facilities.Three out of 35 establishments are out of order and efforts are on to review.

Mock drill is a simulated emergency exercise designed to prepare civilians and officials to perform safety measure tasks against potential threats .
The goal of the exercise is to test the readiness of civil defense system and train people to respond effectively in real time situations.
The officials as part of the mock drill carry out the activities of the given eventualities and while performing the task will also involve people,volunteers to join the drill so that they can get the experience of handling the situation and take safety measures .
There are many states of the mock drill which includes Air Raid warning is to trigger sirens to alert people about the air raids what measures they can take .
Evacuation rehearsal to train moving on how to move from the disastrous sites to the safety,cleaning bunker and trenches to get used to them,blockouts procedure and camouflaging critical and vital installations,training civilians on safety measures and Coordination drill to ensure do’s and don’ts while coordinating with the different agencies including police,disaster management,civil defence and other civic agencies and testing control room and radio communications for emergencies .
In Bengaluru urban as many as 35 places have been identified and around 5000 civil defense personnel,NCC cadets and other stakeholders will be roped into conduct mock drills .
The drill will have preparedness and safe guarding assets,preventive measures,preparedness,coordination and on how to minimize casualties .
The drill will involve volunteers and members of the general public gathered,a senior official,added .
