Railway officer in Bengaluru arrested for taking Rs.50 lac bribe to help candidates pass KAS exam

The Vijayanagar police of west Bengaluru have arrested a 49-year-old Railway official for cheating people promising government jobs .

The accused has been identified as Govindaraju,49,from Nagarabhavi in Bengaluru working as Chief Ticket Inspector in South Western Railways (SWR),the officer said.

He further said the case has nothing to do with any examination conducting agency or any question paper leak,S Girish,Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), said.It’s a pure case of cheating the candidates,who appearing for competative exams.

Based on credible inputs received from the informants about Govindaraju allegedly obtaining money by promising aspirants of Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS),Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) and other such competitive exams that they would be passed and cheating them.

A team of police detained Govindaraju from Vijayanagar after he was seen leaving the house.

When the police asked the accused to handover his mobile phone,he attempted to flee but he was chased and caught before recovering four mobile phones from him.

The suspect was brought to the police station and when questioned revealed that he knew some officials linked with the competitive exams.

Using this contacts,he would approach candidates through middlemen and offer to get them jobs for a price ranging from Rs.25 to Rs.50 lakh for clearing the prelims of the KAS and other competitive exam.

probe revealed that the accused would advise his clients to fill the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheet with the answers they know and leave others blank,as it would be filled later to get maximum scores.

“As a guarantee,the suspect also collected the copies of Class 10 and other graduate certifications from the victims,”a senior police officer said.“The accused also has a past similar case booked in 2018.”

When one of his phones was unlocked,the officers found that there were names of 46 people along with images of cheques and documents.

He told the police that he was at Ramesh’s house as his daughter was to write the KAS exams on December 29 and promised get her clear exams.

The police have registered a case has been registered under Section 318(4) (cheating) and 61(1)(a) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for further investigation he added.
