Six member of same family died as container crushes car and two-wheeler on Bengaluru national highway near Nelamangala

raffic on the busy National Highway-4 was disrupted for over two hours while police struggled to pull out the damaged vehicles off the road

Bengaluru: As many as six people,including three children,were killed and two others injured when a speeding goods container toppled on the car on Begur Nelamangala highway road on Saturday (December 18, 2024) morning.

Two more vehicles collided with each other following the accident.

The deceased have been identified as Chandram Yagappagol,48,Goura Bai,42,Deeksha,12,Gyaan,16, Vijayalakshmi,36 and Arya, 6.

Senior officer said,Chandram,is Director of a Tech company and resident of HSR Layout was on his way to his home town with his family along with Vijayalakshmi, sister-in-law and daughter of his brother .

Chandsram had purchased a new Volvo car which is one of the safest car and taking the family out on a Christmas holiday.

The incident occurred when they were moving behind a goods vehicle.Meanwhile a container coming in a rash and negligent manner lost control and jumped the median crashed into the goods vehicle and toppled on the car they were travelling.

Due to the impact all the six people were killed on the spot and the police later used three cranes to pull the container to recover the bodies .

The Jurisdictional Nelamangala traffic police have visited the spot and bodies are being recovered. Superintendent of Police,CK Baba visited the spot and supervised the investigations.

Two truck drivers were also injured in the accident and were recovering at the hospital .

The police have initiated the investigations to ascertain the exact reason for the accident.Probe revealed that the truck was over speeding and tried to avoid a vehicle moving ahead and the driver crushed into the divider .

The police are recovering the CCTV footage from in and around the area for analysis.The police are also waiting for the medical report to ascertain whether the accused driver was under the influence of alcohol he added.
