our days after the gruesome murder of 29-year-old Mahalakshmi surfaced at her house in Vyyalikaval,the prime accused identified as Mukti Ranjan Pratap Roy who was on the run found dead by suicide he hanged to a tree near his native place in Odisha on Wednesday.
Following the gruesome murder on September 21,where Mahalakshmi was killed on the first floor of a three-storey house and chopped body parts were stuffed in a fridge , the accused was on the run .
The police who identified the accused dispatched a team to track him down.However Roy stayed at home situated in Bhunipur in Bhadrak till tuesday night stating he had come on emergency work .
He left on his motorcycle and later his body was found hanging to a tree near a graveyard situated around 1.5 kms .
The jurisdictional police who recovered the body later ascertained his identity based on the bike registration and other belongings and alerted the Bengaluru police .
Roy who was working at a cloth shop in Malleshwaram where Mahalakshmi was initially working.She later joined as sales executive in a showroom in mantri mall.
Roy used to pick up and drop her.He used to fight with Mahalakshmi after realizing that she had many male friends nut Mahalakshmi started ignoring him.The jealousy led him to commit the gruesome murder,the police said .
The accused after the murder informed his brother about it before fleeing to his hometown.He had switched off his mobile phone to avoid being tracked .
However the police track down his brother in Hebbagodi and based on his information,a team was sent to track him down.
The police had picked up few of Mahalakshmi’s male friends for questioning.The police also recorded the statement of estranged husband who suspected the role of Ashraf,who worked in a near-by saloon.
This information was picked up by the opposition party leaders who tweeted about the role of accused terming it as Shradha walker murder case 2.0 and blamed the ruling party of appeasement politics .
