23-year-old man drowned in Pannathur Lake in Maratahalli when he ventured into the lake with friends after reportedly consuming alcohol with friends.
The entire incident was captured on a mobile by one of his friend who was sitting at the lake bed to guard the belonging of the other two who ventured into the lake.
The deceased,identified as Anil,worked as a housekeeper and had gone to the lake with two of his friends—Dinesh, 26, also a housekeeper,and Upendra, a security guard.
The incident occurred around 4 PM.
Senior officer said the trio had consumed alcohol before heading to the lake.While Anil and Dinesh entered the water to swim,Upendra stayed at the lake bed,recording the event to make a social media reel.
Initial investigations reveal that both Anil and Dinesh knew how to swim.
The body was recovered later that evening after efforts by rescue teams.Police are currently investigating the incident and have registered a case of accidental drowning.
They also suspect that Anil,the deceased,may have consumed more alcohol than the others, which likely made him inability to swim properly.
“Though they were familiar with swimming,the influence of alcohol seems to have impaired Anil’s ability to stay afloat,”a senior official said.
All three men are originally from Nepal and have been living in Bengaluru for work for three years.The body has been sent to post mortem to ascertain cause of death. Inquiry revealed that Anil had minor accident and sustained head injuries recently.Further investigations are underway.
