“We are not competitors in a geopolitical war. We will not be part of them in future. These do not want to crumble like a sandwich. Especially India and China do not want to get into trouble. Both countries are our valuable friends. I think our friendship will get stronger under NPP government. At the same time, we want close relations with the countries of Europe, West Asia and Africa,” said Disanayake on his foreign policy.
Dissanayake believes that a neutral stance is crucial to safeguard Sri Lanka’s sovereignty at a time of rising regional tensions. Sri Lanka is far from the battle of world powers. At the same time, they said that they will focus on establishing diplomatic and partnerships that will be beneficial to both sides.
Dissanayake, who recently won the election, took charge on Monday. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya was sworn in as the 9th President of the country. The Presidential Secretariat is the platform for this. Later, Disanayake addressed the nation. On this occasion, he thanked the recent former President Ranil Wickramasinghe who respected the people’s decision and contributed to the peaceful transfer of power.
