FIR against Kannada actor-filmmaker Rakshit Shetty over alleged copyright violation

The Yeshwanthpur police registered an FIR against Kannada film star Rakshit Shetty for violating copy right act and using kannada songs without permission from the music company concerned .

This is the second case Shetty has been booked .

Naveen Kumar,co-owner of MRT Music,has registered a complaint against Shetty and his production company, Paramvah Studios,for using two of their songs in the movie Bachelor Party,produced by Paramvah Studios.

In his complaint,Kumar claimed that Shetty has used “Nyaya Yellide? from the “Nyaya Yellidhe”movie and “Omme Ninnannu”from the “Gaali Maatu”film in his newly released Bachelor Party movie without buying their rights.

Naveen Kumar in his complaint said that Paramvah Studios and its owner,Shetty,approached about using two of our songs in their movie in January 2024.But the deal could not materialized .

Kumar claimed that three months later,when the movie was released on OTT,he saw that both songs were used without authorization.

Following Kumar’s complaint,the Yeshwantpur police have filed an FIR against Shetty and Paramvah Studios under Section 63 of the Copyrights Act.

The police said that they have served two notices to Shetty,but they haven’t received any response yet. Based on the third notice,further action would be initiated against him.

It may be recalled that city based music company Lahari Music had accused Shetty’s banner,Paramvah Studios,of copyright violations in 2016.

The Lahari company claimed that Shetty’s blockbuster Kirik Party movie had their “Hey Who are You?”song without any permission from the music company.
