A video of trucks carrying liquor boxes and hundreds of people formed long queues to collect the alcohol bottles in the presence of the police went viral on social media along with a letter written by BJP Nelamangala Taluk president to the Deputy Superintendent of police seeking permission for security and distribution of liquor.

Reacting to the issue, senior police officials said that though adequate security arrangements has been made to ensure law and order, permission was denied for serving liquor at the program, citing it may lead to any untoward incident .

The police officials also warned the organizers that legal action would be initiated if any law and order issue due to the liquor distribution.

However the organizers went ahead with the program after obtaining a temporary CL4 license from the excise officials concerned .

Since there is a violation and no untoward incident, the police become mute spectators and provided security cover for the program.

Around 400 people who received liquor bottles along with non veg meal parties roadside and some of them even passed out.

Police and others had to arrange vehicles to sent them home and to ensure their safety .

This is probably the first time some one blatantly wrote to the police in an official letter head seeking permission to distribute liquor at the program.

Meanwhile Bengaluru Rural SP CK Baba commented on the police’s role, stating,”The excise department gave permission and the police were instructed to take care of the arrangements.

There is no fault of the police department in this; it is the responsibility of the excise department for providing the permission.”

In response to the controversy,K Sudhakar said,”I’ve seen it in the media.I don’t know if the ones who organised the event consumed it or the people present there consumed it.If any of our karyakartas or JDS karyakartas did it,it’s wrong.

In my 20 years in politics,I have never distributed liquor. I haven’t done it during elections or during any event. If you look at my history over the past 20 years, you’ll know.

There’s no relation to this incident and me.It has pained me also. It’s a crime to distribute liquor whether it’s an election event or otherwise.I have already informed them this mustn’t be done he said to media persons.
