The Principal City Civil and Sessions Judge and Special Judge for CBI Cases,Bangalore convicted former Superintendent of Customs,Air Cargo Complex,Air Customs Commissionerate,Bangalore,V.Vishweshwara Bhat,in a disproportionate case and sentenced him to four years’imprisonment with fine of ₹ 26.5 lakh.
The CBI on March 2016 registered a case against V. Vishweshwara Bhat,for amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income while he was working as superintendent of customs at Bengaluru office .
During the check period between January 2010 to March 2016 the accused allegedly had in his possession disproportionate assets to the extent of ₹ 39.6 lakh which according to the estimation 113.46 per cent disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The CBI after completion of investigation filed charge-sheet in September 2017 .
Investigation revealed that while working as public servant in the capacity of Superintendent for six years various places and amassed disproportionate wealth which could not satisfactorily account for.
After trial,the Court held accused guilty and sentenced him accordingly.
