Two staff of NIMHANS booked for stealing Biopsy samples and selling it to Kerala based medical institute siddapura police initiated probe

Lab technician and mortuary assistant of NIMHANS hospital have been booked for stealing biopsy samples of the patients to Kerala based private colleges and institutes for monitory benefits .

The accused Chandrashekhar M,working in Neuro oncology department and mortuary assistant, Annadurai S,were caught during surprise inspection by Head of the department Dr.Anitha Mahadevan on December 23.

The inspection team found that many paraffin blocks containing Biopsy samples were missing and confronted the accused .

The duo confessed that they had sold it to one Raghuram of Kerala and other private colleges and institutes illegally .

A report in this regard has been submitted based on which Dr.Shankar Narayana Rao BS,Registrar,has filed a complaint with the Siddapura police .

Based on the complaint the Siddapura police registered an FIR charging the accused under theft and criminal breach of trust .

The police have summoned the accused and one of them has been questioned,DCP,South Division,Rahul Kumar Shahpurwad,said.

Inquiries revealed that the biopsy samples are used to study patient medical history and his treatment .

One of the accused in this connection has been questioned to ascertain the monitory benefits and the motive behind the illegal sale .

The police suspect that the racket was operational for many months as there was demand for different kind of samples a senior officer said.
