Corona Virus: health department of West Bengal strengthen Genom sequencing to detect patients after one died in Covid19

Abhijit Ray, Kolkata:After a gap of one and a half years, Bengal is again a victim of Covid. In the last 24 hours, one person has died due to coronavirus in the state. A total of 15 people were infected. Among them is a child. And this information raises concerns. According to the Centre, the number of Covid cases in the country has crossed 4,000. The situation in Bengal is slightly better. The infection here is less than that. However, the state health department is more aware of the news of one death. According to the Health Ministry, the person who died of corona in the state had suffered a heart attack.According to the Health Ministry, a total of 15 cases have been reported in West Bengal. Active cases 10, 3 have recovered and returned home. A 6-month-old baby is also among those infected with COVID-19. He is on ventilator in the paediatrics department of Calcutta Medical College Hospital. He was admitted to a private hospital in Howrah from Bihar with meningitis symptoms. From there, he was sent to the Medical College Hospital. The rest of the victims are undergoing treatment at various private hospitals in the city.Taking cognizance of the Union Health Ministry’s information, the state health department has sent a medical team to the hospital. Saliva samples of the deceased have been collected. The saliva of the remaining victims has also been collected and sent for genome sequencing. A health department official said that the focus is on testing-treatment and genome sequencing to tackle Covid.
