Karnataka commercial taxes department has exposed alleged tax evasion finds 30 UPI QR codes, Rs 1.47 crore from biryani shop owner in Hoskote

T he Commercial tax sleuths on Monday conducted a series of raids on the non vegetarian hotels of and unearth huge amount GST tax evasion using UPI payment mode .

Based on a tip off,a team of officials from vigilance wing,posing as customers and made test purchase conducted multiple surveys,reconnaissance,searched were made by a team of 50 officers,at the business premises and residence of such hoteliers who were mainly engaged in supply of Biryani and other non vegetarian item.

Commissioner of Commercial taxes,C Shikha,said that the modus operandi is receiving payments by using numerous UPI accounts and constantly changing the UPI accounts so that the actual turnovers are suppressed and taxes are evaded.

The hoteliers involved were not issuing invoice bills of sale for supply of food items and proper books of account were not maintained .

In one case,30 QR codes were found,during the search in one of the residence of a proprietor,around Rs.1.47 crore cash were found and it was immediately intimated to income tax officials,who have initiated proceedings.

Commercial taxes department is constantly focusing and analyzing and acting upon various methods adopted by tax evaders and shall continue to act in the directions.

It May be recalled that the commercial tax officials conducted similar excercise at Chickpet last week and unearth huge amount of tax evasion .
