Dr.Shivratri Rajendra Mahaswamy had a vision for society.Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that because of this, Suttur Mutt has grown into a huge tree with regard to education and spiritual samskara.
He was speaking at His Holiness Jagadguru Dr Sri Shivratri Rajendra Mahaswamy’s 108th Jayanti celebrations organized by Jagadguru Sri Veera Simhasana Mahasansthan Mutt at Suttur Mutt.
The mutt has brought thousands of rural poor and underprivileged children into the mainstream through education and food.
The Chief Minister appreciated that the inequality rooted in the society through the chaturvarna system is being eradicated by providing food and education.
He said that Shivratri Rajendra Mahaswamy did the great work of making children better human beings and better citizens through education by considering it as a penance.
Even after 75 years of independence,only 78 out of 100 people are literate.The rest still haven’t got it.If scientific and rational education is not available,society will suffer from inertia.He said that only when the Kuvempu’s Vishwa Manava consciousness expands, the society will have mobility.
Dr.Shivratri Rajendra Mahaswamy had a very meaningful life.He reformed and led the society, spiritually,educationally and in a healthy way.
As early as the 12th century,the Basavadi Sharanas gave medicine to the inequality present in the society through the mantra “Iva Nammava”.
As per the Constitution,if tolerance and coexistence has to be practiced,the will to impart scientific and rational education is needed.The Chief Minister explained that Shivratri.Rajendra Mahaswamy had that willpower.
Our government has implemented guarantee programmes to give power to the powerless as per the wish of Basavadi Sharanas.He said that we have entrusted the people with guarantee programmes to increase the purchasing power of all castes,religions and all classes.
Basavanna,Ambedkar,Gandhi’s aspirations for social justice are seen in Shivratri Rajendra Mahaswamy’s work.He said that our government is also designing government programmes with great consciousness of them all.
Myself and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar together went to Chamundi Hill and offered pooja to Mother Chamundeshwari.He said that we have prayed that we are giving the power that mother gave us through the Grihalakshmi programme to the people.
Social Welfare Minister,Dr.HC.Mahadevappa presided over the program.Jagadguru of Suttur Kshetra Veerasimhasana Mahasansthan Mutt Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji,Jagadguru of Adichunchanagiri Maha Sansthan Mutt,Sri Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswamiji,Sri Siddalinga Mahaswami of Siddhganga Kshetra,Sri Vishwaprasanna Theertha Sripada of Udupi Pejawara Mutt were present.
MP,Pratap Simha,MLAs,Tanveer Seth,Harish Gowda, Ravi Shankar,Ganesh Prasad,Srivatsa,Anil Chikkamadu, Ashraya Committee Chairman Dr.Yatindra Siddaramaiah,former MLA,MK Somasekar,Vidhan Parishad members,Maritibbe Gowda,H.Vishwanath and many others were present.
