No peace at Manipur after PM’s confirmation speech of 15th August

Abhijit Ray:Manipur is again bloody and violently ravaged. At least three people lost their lives in the clash in the early hours of Friday. The incident happened in Ukhrul district. According to police sources, all the deceased belong to the Kuki community. Incidentally, the last news of murder in Agnigarbha Manipur was on August 5. After stopping for almost a fortnight, the death march started again in Seraj on Friday. The total death toll in Manipur has already crossed 150.SP N Vasum of Ukhrul said that some miscreants attacked Thouai Kuki village around 4:30 am on Friday. They started firing at the village from the area adjacent to the hill. Bullets were fired at the village guards. Three Kuki persons died on the spot. Initially, the miscreants were believed to have come from Naga-dominated areas.Vasum said that no one has been injured in this incident yet. However, security has been tightened in this area. Joint forces of Manipur Police and Indian Army have already started searching for the culprits. But the news is that the culprits have not been caught yet. Incidentally, on August 5, two Kukis and three Metei persons lost their lives in the caste clashes.It is to be noted that the sectarian conflict started in Manipur last May. 160 people lost their lives in Kuki-Meitei unrest. About 60 thousand people are homeless due to violence. Relief camps are overflowing with helpless people. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his reply to the no-confidence motion said that the entire country is with Manipur. In his speech at the Red Fort on Independence Day, the Prime Minister claimed that peace has returned to the state in the past few days. After that, there was news of death again in Manipur.
