Visakhapatnam: The ‘port bandh’ by workers at the Gangavaram port in Visakhapatnam district has led to tension. Many people were injured in the scuffle between the workers and the police.

The labor unions have called for a bandh with the demands of reinstatement of the sacked port workers and payment of a minimum wage of Rs.36 thousand. As a result, on Thursday morning, a large number of workers, expatriates, people of pollution-affected areas and leaders of all parties reached the Gangavaram port. The police were heavily deployed in the wake of the bandh call. They tried to stop the agitators at an additional gate 100 meters away from the main gate of the port. A heavy iron fence was erected on both sides of the gate.

A large number of port workers crossed the fence and tried to lay siege along with their families. This led to a scuffle between the protesters and the police. Many workers and policemen were injured in this incident. 10 policemen were injured, two of them were seriously injured. A barbed wire landed on Gajuwaka CI’s leg in the fight.
