The Anekal police arrested a 19-year-old murder accused who attacked a police constable in a bid to escape from getting arrested in the outskirts of the city on Saturday.
The accused identified as Akash and four of his associates including two juveniles hacked a 24-year-old hardware shop salesman,Hemanth to death on July 31.
The prime accused in the murder case is a 17-year-old PU student who was heading the gang wanted to kill someone to prove his point to his father as targeted Hemanth who was returning home from work .
The accused had borrowed Rs.7,000 and a car from his father informing him that he had killed someone and wanted money,before the murder.
The accused in order to prove his point ganged up with his associates and zeroed in on Hemanth who was returning home on his bike on the fateful night of July 31.
The accused knock down his motorcycle and before he could realize they got down from the car and hacked him to death.
The accused had also made a video call to his girl friend and boasted that he is going to kill someone and he would call her after the murder .
The girl who got scared and shared the information with her friends,reached the police who are probing the case .
This crucial information helped the police to crack down on the killer gang,Mallikarjuna Baladandi, Superintendent of police,supervised the investigations,told reporters.
On Saturday the police received a credible information that Akash was hiding in a dilapidated house in the outskirt and went to secure his arrest.
Akash attacked Police Constable Manikantha in a bid to escape.Police Sub Inspector,Pradeep Kumar,warned Akash to surrender and fired in the air .
But Akash began to flee following which Pradeep Kumar fired at his right leg to stop him from fleeing.
The police have secured the juvenile and efforts are on to track down the other gang members who are on the run.
The police have also booked father of the prime accused who despite knowing about the murder tried to help him,Mr.Baladandi,said .
The prime accused who was pursuing in first PU in a college was terminated for his criminal activities after the hostel warden complained.
The accused was also planning to eliminate hostel warden to take revenge which is part of the probe, a senior officer,said .
