Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed his grief over the death of Kerala’s former Chief Minister and senior political statesman Ooman Chaandy.

T he news of the death of Ooman Chandy, who was a dear friend is shocking. He was one among the Chief Ministers who was the reason behind the keeping the State in higher position in the Human Development Index. His achievement as 2 time Chief Minister of Kerala is immense”

He served the State from 2004 to 2006 and 2011 to 2016 as Chief Minister . He served as AICC General Secretary too. He effectively led the legacy of struggle politics and as Leader of the opposition constantly fought for the protecting the aspirations and values of the Constitution.

He represented the Puttupalli Assembly Constituency consecutively since 1970 for the longest time.He is also qthe only Indian to be conferred with an award for Public Service given by the UN.

We had met several times when we both served as Chief Ministers.He had great clarity and his own model with regard to development.

He had appreciated several of our Government’s schemes including Annabhagya.He had also written a letter appreciating our schemes and the budget saying that they had a clear goal and path for the upliftment of the poor and middle class.

His death is a loss for the development, pro people politics, for Kerala and also a personal loss.

The CM in his condolence message said that he prayed the Almighty to give strength to the family members to bear the loss.
