St. Xavier’s University will give the title of D.Litt to Mamta Banerjee

 

Abhijit Ray,Kolkata:St. Xavier’s University in Kolkata to confer honorary D.Litt title to  West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her contribution to the higher education in the state of West Bengal.  It is known that this honor is being given to the Chief Minister by St. Xavier’s University today, Monday, February 6. The Chief Minister will officially accept this honor of the university on this day.Preparations for this event are underway at St. Xavier’s University. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee proposed to convert St. Xavier’s College into a university. Accordingly, St. Xavier’s became a separate university in New Town. Governor CV Anand Bose will attend the function today. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is going to inaugurate the newly constructed administrative block of the university after visiting St. Xavier’s.As the reason for this honor, a statement from the university has been written ‘Mamata Banerjee will be awarded the D.Litt Award for her contribution to the development of higher education in West Bengal.’ In 2018, Calcutta University awarded the D.Ltt Award to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Earlier, the Chief Minister received the D.Litt. honor from West Bengal’s  Governor Kesrinath Tripathi.This time, the university wanted to honor her as she had helped a lot in setting up the institute in 2017.The private university was established in New Town near Kolkata on the land given during the TMC government. In January 2018, the state-run Calcutta University awarded an honorary doctorate to the Chief Minister for her social service.
