Himachal Pradesh Election Results 2022 Live Updates: Congress holds meeting of newly-elected Himachal MLAs


Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections were held in Himachal Pradesh on 12 November 2022 to elect 68 members of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

The seat of the Vidhan Sabha is at Shimla, the capital of the state. The Vidhan Sabha comprises 68 Members of Legislative Assembly, which include 68 members directly elected from single-seat constituency. Its term is 5 years, unless sooner dissolved.

The result was a victory for the Indian National Congress, which returned to power after losing their majority in 2017, continuing a pattern of the incumbent party losing reelection in Himachal Pradesh since 1985.

Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu became the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh whereas Mukesh Agnihotri became deputy chief minister & Jai Ram Thakur (born 6 January 1965) is an Indian politician and was the 6th Chief Minister of the state of Himachal Pradesh from 2017 to 2022. He is a five-time MLA in the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, winning continuously since 1998 and has previously served as a Cabinet Minister in the Bharatiya Janata Party Government of Himachal Pradesh. Thakur was the Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj from 2009 to 2012. He is elected to Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Seraj Assembly constituency of Mandi district. He won his first election in the year 1998 from now delimited constituency of Chachiot (Seraj).

Himachal Pradesh Election Results 2022 Live Updates: The Congress, which wrested power from the BJP in Himachal Pradesh, has scheduled a meeting of all its newly-elected MLAs in Shimla on Friday and the gathering is likely to approve a resolution authorising the Congress president to nominate the CLP leader.

The Congress on Thursday gained 40 seats in the 68-member Assembly in the hill state which maintained its history of not electing any incumbent administration to power since 1985.

Mukesh Agnihotri, the opposition’s leader, said that a meeting will take place in Shimla on Friday.

The Congress’s current dilemma is choosing a chief ministerial figure who can unite the party moving ahead.
