A 16-year-old girl was killed and her mother and younger brother injured when a BMTC bus knock down the scooter they were riding on Bhattarahalli road in KR Puram on Tuesday monring.
The deceased has been identified as Layashri , SSLC student with a private school .
The injured Priyadarshini,45,and her son Yashwin, 11,escaped with minor injuries and currently recovering at the hospital,a police officer,said.
The injured Priyadarshini was heading towards TC palya to drop children to the school,when the incident occurred .
The incident occurred at 7.20 am near wings bike showroom when the BMTC bus coming from TC palya to Bhattarahalli, in a rash and negligent way turned to the right and knock down the scooter.
While the mother and son fell on the safer side of the road,Layashri came under rightside of the front wheel and sustained severe injuries.
Passers-by rushed Layashri to Satyasai hospital where the doctors declared her as brought dead. sensing trouble the driver,abandoned the bus and escaped .
The KR Puram traffic police rushed to the spot and conducted a detailed probe and later track down the bus driver identified as Mahendra DN, 39, and arrested him.
Inquiries revealed that the rash and negligent act of the driver led to the accident.The police subjected the driver for medical test to ascertain whether he was under the influence of any substance, but it was negative .
The accused has been arrested and the bus has been seized for further investigations.Layashri father worked in an IT company while Prayadarshini is a home maker, the police, said .
