Abhijit Ray, Kolkata:The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police arrested one person from Amherst Street area here on Friday following the seizure of arms and ammunition and fake Indian currency notes (FICN) from his possession, an officer said.The accused is expected to be produced in court on Friday.According to STF sources, the arrested person’s name is Joy alias Manik Chowdhury. He is a resident of Alipur. On this day Joy was arrested from APC Road and a total number of 4 firearms were recovered from him. Three semi-automatic pistols and one country pistol is recovered. Besides, 100 rounds of ammunition were also recovered from the accused. A case has been registered against the accused under multiple sections including the Arms Act. Also, case has been registered under sections 120B, 489B and 489C of the Indian Penal Code.Earlier last month, weapons were recovered near Sinthi intersection. The heads of a deadly arms smuggling ring from Bihar to Kolkata were caught by the detective police. The gang was smuggling deadly weapon carbines in Kolkata. At the same time, more firearms were smuggled.
