Life is more important than politics’, says Mamata Banerjee on Gujarat bridge disaster

Abhijit Ray, Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee left for Chennai on Wednesday. Before that, she did not open her mouth about the bridge disaster in Gujarat at the airport. She has informed that those who are playing with people’s lives should be punished. She also mentioned that an investigation committee should be formed under the supervision of the Supreme Court in the entire incident.Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed grief over the bridge disaster in Gujarat while facing the media at the Kolkata airport. At the same time, she said, “Life is more important than politics.” I am deeply saddened by what happened. My condolences to the family of the deceased. Many people have died in this accident, one body has arrived in the state. Many more people are missing, some of them are from Bengal, we don’t know yet.”After that, strongly condemning the role of the Gujarat government, the Chief Minister said, “Those who are playing with people’s lives should be punished. Bengal has the highest number of bridgesandearlier,  we had an accident here. But even though I was on a political program, I came to the accident site and inquired. All kinds of help were provided by the government. However, even after such a big accident in Gujarat, there was no cooperation from the government.Also, complaining about the gross negligence, the Chief Minister said, “The bridge was opened only keeping the elections in mind. The bridge was opened before the final clearance came. Why ED-CBI will not investigate this incident. So many people’s lives were played with. Common people’s lives have been put at risk by entrusting the task to those who have no experience in building bridges.Gujarat government should give compensation to all the affected people. Family members should be given jobs.” Apart from this, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that an inquiry committee should be made under the supervision of the Supreme Court in the Gujarat bridge disaster. It may be noted that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is going to Chennai to attend a family function on the invitation of West Bengal’s current Governor. In this regard, she said, “This meeting with the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is completely courtesy.” But if two politicians sit together, politics will definitely be discussed.” Besides, Mamata Banerjee also made it clear that the role of regional parties is going to be very important in the 24 elections.
