China stopped the resolution introduced by India and the United States in the United Nations to declare him as a global terrorist. This is the fourth time China has blocked the United Nations from taking action against terrorists in the last few months. India and America have made these proposals to take action against Mahmood under the ‘1267 Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee’ in the UN Security Council. In 2016 itself, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Shahid Mahmood and Sarwar. John E. Smith, the US Foreign Assets Control Officer at the time, said that they were raising funds for terrorism.
Who is Shahid Mahmood..?
Shahid Mahmood is a senior member of Lashkar-e-Taiba in Karachi. He has been working for Lashkar since 2007. In 2013, he worked as a member of the Lashkare Publications Department. Since 2014, he has been working in Lashkar-e-affiliated Falah-e Insaniyat Foundation (FIF). He traveled to Syria, Turkey, Bangladesh and Gaza and funded terrorism. He also conducted activities abroad with another terrorist leader, Sajid Mir.
